I haven't written, responded or participated very much in way180.com for quite a while now.
To tell you the truth, October, November and December were difficult months for many of us, including myself.
Sure, after 28 years in the Lord, I have learned how to tough it out and hold on to the Lord but I have to say that with the economy affecting so many areas of peoples lives, it seemed like a cloud of oppression was upon the Las Vegas valley. With all the stats saying Nevada has been one of the "hardest hit" areas in the nation, it's no surprise.
And for me personally, doing the tent-maker thing, side work and stuff isn't something I hate, it just consumes the time I'd rather use sitting with brothers and sisters, talking bout the amazing things of God.
This economy has hit sooo many sooo hard that people, who recognize and respond to the need for personal responsibility, have had to scramble to make ends meet.
God told us in His word that these times would come. And those children who have paid attention to the "whole counsel of God" are best equipped to respond but anyway, for me the clouds have cleared and it seems that the people of God are rallying to the One who is worthy of their praise for the answers that only He can give.
Yesterday (1/31/10), at church, Sally Cribbs told me that way180.com had 180 participants.
Wow, last I looked we had just passed 100.
Dude, what is goin on?
Anyway - HOW EXCITING !!!
I don't know who you all are but welcome and thank you for being part of our community.
I pray that we can be an encouragement to you and please, participate in any, appropriate and edifying way. We'd love to hear from you and be encouraged by you as well.
For us at Calvary Chapel Meadow Mesa, we are beginning to break out in passionate expressions of worship. It is like healing to the spirit. Consider the following passage:
Isaiah 61:1-4
1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; he has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."
4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
(NKJ)
Those who are familiar with scripture know that the early portion of the passage was spoken by Jesus in the synagogue as He stated that the passage was fulfilled in His reading of it. Yes, it's first and best application was completed in that moment but this passage continues to serve as the call to all whou would answer the call to be preachers, sharers, teachers, witnesses delivering the gospel, (good news / good tidings) message to the lost. We who are called to this mission are told that we are to:
. . . console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."
And they shall rebuild the old ruins, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.
As we put on the garment of praise, the spirit of heaviness seems to pass.
Our strength becomes more like that of a tree that withstands the varied winds that press upon us.
We become that which God had in mind when the seed of the gospel was planted in us.
We become the planting of the Lord in the garden of what He longs to establish in the earth.
AND WE SHALL: rebuild what looked old and ruined.
AND WE SHALL: raise up what seemed desolate and diminished of value.
AND WE SHALL: repair those cities, homes and families who thought themselves beyond help.
AND WE SHALL: repair and rebuild that which for generations seemed lost and worthless.
From out of the ashes will come a beautiful thing.
I will choose the oil of Joy in the Holy Spirit instead of mourning.
I will put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.
That I might be a tree of righteousness, a planting of the Lord in the garden of God.
People of CCMM, join me in this. Meet me in this as we gather together at church.
